Saint Augustine of HippoAugustine is the real inspiration behind this show. Since I first read Confessions, I knew that I wanted to make art about this amazingly visual book filled with wonderful analogies. |
Christof MeyerI sometimes feel as though Christof and I are the last two Paladins guarding the pass against the barbarians. You see, we are two of the few Biola students who love typography with every ounce of our being. Christof's work in A body in 15 Movements, a show which I curated, incorporated type into the ancient liturgical rites of the Church in a fascinating and innovative way. |
Fred SandersDr Sanders is an inspiration to me in more ways than one. He was an art major in college, and went on to study theology in graduate school. That is awesome. He also happens to be the man who led me and my intrepid classmates through the Confessions over the period of a semester. Augustine's writing itself excited me, but Doctor Sanders helped me understand Augustine just a bit more. |
Isabel SamarasI stumbled upon Isabel Samaras quite by accident, and her work is typically quite perverse in nature, which I do not condone, but she rocks my world for two simple reasons: First, she is one of the only contemporary artists I have found who has done anything even remotely new with Saint Augustine (her painting Behold My Heart [pictured]). Second, The Raft of the Minnow. |
